From April 11, 2008 Rebekah Bryce will commence practising naturopathy
from rooms within the Gippsland Foot Clinic Building. Rebekah has a special
interest in women’s health and will be conducting the Naturepure
Women’s Health Clinic.
Naturopathy is a system of healing that aims to provide holistic or whole
body healthcare by drawing on treatment methods from several traditional
systems of medicine. Naturopathy seeks to use the natural healing powers
of the body to cure itself. Its focus is on treating the cause of a disease
rather than the symptoms themselves.
Although naturopathy is often described as an alternative medicine, it
is not really an alternative to modern medicine, but is an additional
and complimentary therapy for some non-serious medical conditions.
Optimal health and wellness is what naturopathic treatment is all about.
The main emphasis of naturopathic practice is the belief that the body
has an inbuilt ability to heal itself. The role of a naturopath is to
work with a person to encourage the natural healing of the body. Naturopathy
is ingrained in the belief that health is more than just the absence of
disease and works on amplifying the body’s natural defences.
Naturopaths see the symptoms of a disease as the body’s defence
mechanism; it’s the body’s way of attempting to move the person
back to a condition of health (homeostasis). A naturopath will work with
the body’s natural defence system rather than suppress the symptoms,
such as fever, loss of appetite or diarrhea.
Rebekah will devise a treatment plan that meets your individual body’s
needs. She may at first advise you on how to remove the underlying causes
of the stress that is causing problems in the body. This could involve
recommending dietary changes, and encouraging ways of achieving a deeper
level of relaxation and altering the body’s coping mechanisms.
Rebekah may then suggest ways to nourish, cleanse and support the body,
by suggesting dietary changes that might involve avoiding certain foods,
eating certain foods, taking various vitamin, mineral or food supplements,
or drinking fruit and vegetable juices. And often recommend a diet high
in fresh, raw fruits, vegetables, whole grains, pulses, seeds and nuts.
Rebekah is also an herbalist and finds that the combination of herbal
medicine with natural medicine provides great results for patients. She
can customize high quality herbal blends from the Naturepure Herbal Dispensary
to suit the individual’s requirements.
The naturopath will also be concerned with eliminating accumulated toxins
from the body. The naturopath may make suggestions such as avoiding caffeine,
tobacco, and alcohol.
Be sure you do not stop taking any medications without consulting your
doctor first.
As well as nutrition, Rebekah uses herbal medicines and homeopathy, and
is trained in counselling skills. Bach flower remedies and iridology — a
technique in which the iris of the eye is examined and is said to give
information about a person's tendency to develop disease — may also
be used.
